Carbon in Northern forests - integration of research and management
This conference will explore the breadth of forest carbon
science in the Lake States and Northeast regions of the US and
provide an opportunity for scientists to: share and discuss research
on carbon pools and cycling in temperate and boreal forests;
identify research needs in forest carbon science given natural and
human disturbances and environmental change; and highlight potential
effects of management on carbon dynamics and suggest methods to
increase carbon stored in forests and wood products.

29 June - 3 July, 2009, Helsinki,
Finland: BIOGEOMON 2009 - 6th International Symposium on Ecosystem
Behavior
The
symposium focuses on biogeochemical research at watershed, landscape
and global scales. Besides the traditional themes of previous
BIOGEOMON symposia, this symposium will include biogeochemical
aspects of wetlands, bioenergy production, atmosphere - forest
interactions, and trace metals.

2nd International Conference on Forests and Water in a Changing
Environment
Forest-water
relations and changing environmental conditions will be discussed at
this conference. The goal of this symposium is to provide a forum
for experts from around the world on eco-hydrology, restoration
ecology, forest ecology, watershed management and global change
sciences to share knowledge and research experiences, and develop
long-term international collaborations on watershed research.

National Park, Finland: Adapting Forest Management to Maintain the Environmental
Services: Carbon sequestration, Biodiversity and Water
The
overall aim of this international conference is to focus on the impacts
of forest management on environmental services – carbon
sequestration, biodiversity and water protection. Specific aims are: a) to present an overview of current research on environmental
services in sustainable forest management, b) to quantify the
environmental impact of different management strategies and
practices, and to support decision-making and c)
to improve the awareness of the environmental services provided by
forests.
The conference is arranged by the Nordic Centre of Advanced Research on
Environmental Services (CAR-ES).
